Book now for Science Week 2026
Acids & Alkalis
Next year we will be celebrating the birth of the Irish born chemist, Robert Boyle. In his honour, we are going to do a fun activity testing the pH levels of liquids for Science Week 2026.

Robert Boyle, born in Lismore, County Waterford in 1627, paved the way for identifying the acids and alkalis, by using a syrup of violets or violet stained paper. We will attempt to use something similar with red cabbage as an indicator (We will also have pH litmus paper to double check our results!).
Sessions are ideal for the older primary age groups.
