Heritage Week
The Order of the Friendly Brothers of St Patrick is a fraternal and benevolent society formed in Galway in the early eighteenth century to stamp out the practice of honour duelling.
This Saturday 24th August, the Order is exhibiting a selection of its earliest archive materials in a free Heritage Week event at Marsh’s Library, Dublin, 8.
Some prominent early members included Arthur Guinness and the Duke of Leinster. The 1798 rebels Lord Edward Fitzgerald and Cornelius Grogan were also members of the Order.
The Order’s display is supported by the Heritage Council.
