Maths Week 2025 – Tessellations

Tessellating ceiling design

Creating an irregular polygon stencil for tessellation design
Maths Week runs from Tuesday 14th October to Friday 17th October 2025 here in the library. We will host twice daily sessions the first at 9.45am – 10.45am and a second session at 11.15am – 12.15pm.
This year we are looking at tessellating shapes found often in our books on architecture. This covers concepts in Transformations and Shapes in the Primary Mathematics curriculum, particulary for the 3rd & 4th classes, but will suit all junior classes.
The students will briefly explore which regular shapes tesselate, what semi-regular tesselations are and learn how to produce their own irregular shape to create a fun repeating tessellation design like our cats (on the right here).
