Sara D’Amico, Gutenberg’s Cradle. Incunables at Marsh’s Library (Dublin, 2024).
€25.00
Description
Gutenberg’s Cradle is a beautifully illustrated book about the 75 texts in Marsh’s Library that were published across Europe in the half-century after the invention of printing with moveable type.
A striking feature of these books is how quickly printers perfected the new technology. Many contain inscriptions or comments left by their first owners. Other volumes have beautiful woodcut images of the creation of the universe, famous historical people, or extraordinary events such as comets and eclipses.
Gutenberg’s Cradle has been nominated for the 2026 Breslauer Prize for Bibliography. Its high production values will ensure that it is a collector’s item in years to come.
